Summary: Somehow now, even after three seasons, Hoseok still can’t relax after the sun goes down. Though, even after three seasons, he knows they’re still looking for him. The others too, of course, but Jimin, Jungkook, and Taehyung were only concubines in training. Hoseok was the King’s favorite. . . . Or - Hoseok knows all too well what it means to be the King's favorite concubine. So when rumors start to circulate that the King is considering making Hoseok his third wife, Hoseok knows that he needs to escape before it's too late. Living in hiding, dodging guards, and trying to make it to the border without getting caught is difficult, especially while looking after three concubines in training that Hoseok couldn't bear to leave behind. But Hoseok is willing to do whatever it takes to reach his freedom, even if it's painful. But then a mysterious alpha learns a little too much and takes an interest in him, and Hoseok is left to wonder if he's been struck with a blessing or a curse.

Jungkook had just let himself cry that day, before it all. That warm spring afternoon, with summer not far off. “It’s okay to be afraid. I’m afraid too, Kook-ah.” His hand in Yoongi’s as they watched the birds and tried not to think too hard about how, whether they won or lost, everything would still change. Everything would be different. They would be different. Not a word of it was spoken between them. Not with their voices. It was in the way that they held each other that night. In the way that Jungkook knew every part of Yoongi so intimately. The curve of his hips, the slimness of his legs, the taste of his lips. The way that Yoongi would melt when Jungkook kissed lines down his chest. The smile that would bloom when Jungkook pressed himself close and whispered, “I love you’s,” as he took Yoongi apart and let him be the most vulnerable part of himself. Coaxing Yoongi to show the side of him that he only ever showed Jungkook. Jungkook knew what Yoongi wanted. Knew what Yoongi needed. Neither of them wanted that to change. And even though he wouldn’t be losing his memory, Jungkook couldn’t hide from the fear that after everything, after they were torn apart and sewn back together, he wouldn’t necessarily know anymore.

Yoongi’s chest rises and falls calmly against Hoseok’s. He rests so easily against Hoseok now. Not an ounce of the hesitation and discomfort that he always used to have. It’s not right. Yoongi isn’t actually comfortable with this. Wouldn’t be comfortable with this if he were himself. Hoseok doesn’t actually know him. Hoseok doesn’t have the right– Yoongi clutches his hands gently in Hoseok’s shirt. His fingers scrunching into needy fists against Hoseok’s back. Hoseok’s heart breaks again. Yoongi still needs comfort. Even now that he doesn’t remember himself, he must still know how scared he was. Even if Hoseok doesn’t truly have a right to, he can’t help but feel protective of the omega in his arms. “I don’t like it here, alpha,” Yoongi says smally, “Alpha smells scared.” Hoseok holds Yoongi tighter. “It’s alright,” Hoseok scents against Yoongi’s cheek, “Alpha has you. I won’t let you go, okay?” Yoongi nods his head into Hoseok’s shoulder and starts to relax again. God, Hoseok’s scent must absolutely reek of stress right now. He should get that under control. But he doesn’t have a chance to, because the very next moment, he makes it to the door of the Head Secretary’s office.

They need to make some money. The problem is there’s only one job Hoseok can really do. Not that he’s unqualified for any other work. There are lots of things that Hoseok is perfectly capable of doing. It’s just that anything he does out in the open is, by definition, a risk. The fact that he’s outside of the castle walls at all is already illegal. Hoseok has been touted on the King’s arm at enough parades and festivals to be potentially recognizable, even to average townsfolk. Not to mention, he can’t share his true identity or his past at all. Anything he does will have to be out of sight and vaguely illicit. So then, there’s really only one thing he can do. Before he was a concubine, Hoseok was a courtesan. Before he was a courtesan, he was a prostitute. Before he was a prostitute, he was living desolate on the streets. It’s not like he’s unfamiliar with the lifestyle. Though, since he’s in a new city with no client base, no credibility, and no history that he’s willing to share, it’s going to be harder. Plus the kids won’t want him to do it, which means he’s going to have to keep it hidden from them. Which he hates. But they’ll try to stop him if he tells them, and he isn’t willing to risk getting caught by trying to get different work. It's fine. Hoseok isn’t dreading it that much.
