Put in a whole order of "Get Up to Speed, ASAP" nonfic through book outlet today. I'm a historian. I keep up on the news. I'm a bleeding heart liberal. I'm aghast at what is happening (and being ALLOWED to happen by the right) in the US right now. I want to see more clearly how we got here.

I finally finished my first book of February and it was an absolutely doozy to be reading Parable of the Sower in 2025 among all this US political nonsense. So powerful. Borderline prophetic. Haunting.

Reread old books on my shelf. I have a ton of books that I read once in high school or college and haven’t read since. I want to read some of these to see if I still like them and want to keep them or if maybe they’d be better suited to someone else’s shelf. Text on graphic background. 2. In 2024 I challenged myself to read more diversely (queer, international and BIPOC authors) and I went from 15-20% diverse authors in prior years to 40% in 2025. I think I could do the same or better in 2025. Text on graphic background . 3. shop more locally, less digitally. When buying physical books I want to buy more from local bookshops in my city (yes, even barnes and noble!) and less from Amazon even if it is a few bucks cheaper online. Plus, Being patient enough to wait for library holds instead of impulse buying books!

One thing I’m very happy with re: my 2024 reads is how diverse my reading was. Previous years I read 15-20% diverse voices. This year 57 of 142 (40%) I tagged as diverse (queer, international, and/or BIPOC authors).

I also remembered the library existed & read 35 books from the library digitally ☺️

53 chapters / 143k words. In just 7 weeks. An entirely fresh rewrite, all from scratch.

This is my third time writing this book and I actually really like it this time. I’m excited to read through, edit the heck out of it, and make it better.
