This semester, students explored invertebrates through quirky and iconic videos from Isabella Rossellini, Sir David Attenborough and Ze Frank! They then pitched an invertebrate to star in a “Wild and Weird Invertebrates"series. The results were AMAZING and wildly creative! @alexsmithants.bsky.social

To track hoped-for shifts in engagement towards previously under-appreciated taxa, we ask the #ZOO2700 students at the start and the end of their intro to #invertebrate morphology & evolution term about their favorite #species of invertebrate and to which phylum it belongs. @sherihincks.bsky.social

Tardigrade won #invertebrate of the year! 😍
Probably the best news we'll see all day, and see below for a lovely quote 🧪

Shaylah K did a GREAT job sharing eDNA results from our fall limnology class at the UofG Arboretum research studio- a day celebrating research and learning across disciplines with presentations from top student research groups and others that use the Arboretum for research projects! #BIOL4350

The GALS visited the The Gryphon Greenhome Growers (and CTV film crew) at the Bovey greenhouse! This student group grows fresh produce that is donated to the Student Foodbank. Our snails and cockroaches get the leftover leaves and produce!

A fun week with the molluscs in #ZOO2700 ! The GALS were out and about, Gavin H drawing a squid on his lab coat(with squid ink), and I received a fantastic crocheted nudibranch from Mikayla J! @alexsmithants.bsky.social @integrativebiology.bsky.social

Nooooo Lucy! The six-pound, 25-year-old lobster saw her shadow- 6 more weeks of winter. I prefer the Wiarton Willies prognostication - no shadow- an early spring.

Our second year invertebrate biology class (ZOO2700) created a collaborative Spotify playlist! They added 146 songs and 8.5 hours of song time. All songs have an invertebrate in the song title or in the lyrics. Yup-it’s available publicly.
