I learned that when the Iowans were like "oh you're Italian from jersey? Would you be willing to make real Italian food?"
I said yes, tried to buy ingredients, & could not find Italian sausage or tomato paste at the local store. Plenty of frozen pizzas though! And a wide array of bratwurst flavors

I learned that when the Iowans were like "oh you're Italian from jersey? Would you be willing to make real Italian food?"

The horror that washed over me still haunts me. My kid at the time was 2, not from jersey, and still refused to eat the "good pizza". Kid & I feasted on peanut butter bread and left the Iowans to their fates

Born & raised jersey kid here who went to Iowa to visit the hubs family, got driven on the gravels to the "good pizza place" & found myself at a BP gas station in the middle of a corn field. Inside the store, there was a small corner dedicated to a microwave "pizza place".
