On this #caturday, the G-cat says there will be no e-books for you or me or anyone. The e-reader belongs to G-cat now. #cats #catsofbluesky

Today was soup weather, so I made a quick miso soup. With a side of roasted sweet potato, because the market had Okinawan sweet potatoes, which are the best sweet potatoes. #cooking #soup

4/ This one makes me think of pumpkins, candy corn, and @seananmcguire.bsky.social . It's autumn in pom-pom form.

Not pictured: all the myriad people also wandering through the volunteer planting, admiring the flowers, taking pictures, and having a good time. Thank you to the volunteer gardeners!

3/ And then there's this stunner. I think this is what they call water lily form, but mostly I think it's just utterly gorgeous with the pink and cream and yellow shading and textures on the petals.

2/ This particular dahlia blooms were huge, yet still stay upright without stakes. I love the delicate difference in shading between the bud, the outer petals, and the inner petals.

1/ It's Monday. Here, have some pretties to help. These are just some of the efforts of a group that plants a dahlia garden every year in a public park. #dahlias #garden #bloomscrolling

Just look at this backlit beauty. And frontlit.

Phones are small enough to fit in pockets and come with cameras good enough and fast enough to capture really good pictures with the touch of a finger no matter where you are. #photography #timelinecleanse

Sigh. Trying to post a picture one more time. Not sure what's going on with #bsky today.

An unexpected surprise in my garden today. Two years ago I planted a few Tricyrtis “Dark Beauty” bulbs in a pot. Supposedly they want deep shade and constant moisture. I have a dark shady spot, so I figured it was worth a try and put the pot there. Nothing last year, but this year... #garden

Not sure what happened to the picture. Trying again...

Happy birthday to me! I've wanted a physical copy of @yilinwriter.bsky.social's amazing work, as my ebook really doesn't do it justice. And now here it is 😍

5/ They also come in a variety of shapes and petal varieties: trumpets and double-triple-whatevers. If you prefer solid shades, white and the pink family seem to be common. And they're relatively inexpensive - just plant a few bulbs and enjoy for years.
I hope you enjoyed today's bloomscrolling!

4/ Not that you have to get close to smell them if they're oriental lilies. Many have very powerful fragrance. Lilies can also be planted in pots. This, for example, is a spectacular combo.
August 10, 2025 at 4:03 PM
3/ Quite often they are planted on their own in small groups. And yes, rain exposes the amazing staining qualities of their pollen. Do not get near a blooming lily without understanding that you might be more colorful when you leave. Which means smelling their fragrance is a risk-taking activity.

2/ I say #lilies are like daffodils in that they both are bulbs, tend to get planted in random spots, and happily multiply from there. They grow for years, poking up cheerful blossoms (and very messy pollen). Case in point: these white and rose with yellow lilies are growing out of a rockery.

1/ Let's do a little #bloomscrolling today and visit the summer equivalent of daffodils, the lily. Some are fragrant, some are not, and they come in a variety of heights, shapes, and colors. For example, here's a short yellow-and-white-with brown/pink-spots bunch growing in a pot. #flowers #garden

@maiastrong01.bsky.social - Don't look now, but I think I just invented hush puppy green beans. They're not pretty, and the recipe needs tweaking, but nom nom nom. #cooking

Happy birthday to you! Here, have a photo of lilies!

It's now #caturday. I posted one of these epic photos of the F-cat earlier in the week. The other is an oldie but goodie, but I'm repeating both as this week really calls for both of these. #catsky #proofofcat #cats

It's not #caturday. Things are crazy and horrible and scary. But the F-cat is willing to do things like this to make you smile, remind you to hang in there, and encourage you to keep doing whatever you can do to make things better. Including bringing someone a brief moment of joy. #catsky #cats

9/ Last but not least, a known peony: this is Gay Paree. Super happy blooming under an enormous lilac with irises and geraniums competing for space, and lillies of the valley all around its feet. Great plant.

This concludes this week's #garden tour of #flowers and #mysteries. #bloomsky

8/ Still another mystery. This is a huge double when opened fully, like someone heaped a second mound of petals on the first set. Nice scent, neat silvery-pink coloring. Wish I knew what variety it is.
