Just finished the first draft of the chapter that introduces the core truth of the world I’m making, torn between making someone read it asap vs waiting till I finish the book to make someone read it in context

Where better to write your story about the clouds than above the clouds themselves?

First writing session of 2025! Just another quick library one, but always worth it nonetheless. Think it’s a great resolution to have a finished draft by this time next year, but as long as I’m writing, it doesn’t matter how long it takes.

“As a male author, how do you manage to write female characters so well?”

“By being a human being. We are all human beings.”

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

Best thing about hand writing parts of the story is that I managed to spell silhouette three different ways and I’m not even sure if any of them were right 👀

Well, that’s one ink cartridge gone in service of this story. Right at the end of the scene, too. Funny how things line up sometimes.

Writing is an act of rebellion.
Writing is an act of creation.
Writing is an act of salvation.
Writing is an act of exploration.
Writing is an act of emotion.
Writing is an act of confession.
Writing is an act of speculation.
Writing is an act of reflection.
Keep writing.

I love when I love writing. Part of becoming more productive was killing the idea that I had to write start to finish. I’m in the middle of writing a scene that came to me impulsively, with no regard for where in the book it’s going to go, but now I’m so excited to get there.

You will do readings where no one shows up. You will set up at events and sell no books. Rejection will show up in your inbox again and again. You will say “I wrote a book!” and folks will stay quiet or say “Cool!” and then not buy it. It’s all good. Part of the gig. KEEP AT IT.
