Well Peter’s Barn Owl family story didn’t disappoint on Wednesday night! Members enjoyed a first class presentation with some fab footage.

Calendars & Annual Reports were snapped up and our Anniversary Book pre-publication offer was launched too.

Another batch of 2021 Annual Reports (BotSA) hand delivered in S11 this morning. Most of the hand deliveries are now complete and another 100 will go out via Royal Mail next week to qualifying members (2021)

Extra copies will be for sale £8 at our next indoor meeting on November 12th.

This is an interesting record of one of "our" birds exploring the wider region post-juvenile moult.

It has moved 18km through the Snake Valley, the first confirmed record of an Eastern Moors juv moving in a westerly direction pre-migration - knowledge only possible through colour-ringing #ukbirding

One of our local colour-ringed juvenile Ring Ouzels has turned up near Glossop. The lower bird in photo, seen feeding on Rowan & Hawthorn. Ringed in the nest at Stanage on 27/6/25 (second brood) - an 18km movement west

Sheffield’s urban Parakeets featured on #bbcspringwatch tonight. They aren’t everybody’s cup of tea for sure… however, @btobirds.bsky.social say breeding Alexandrines are a county first and also first confirmed UK breeding in 20 years. @bbcspringwatch.bsky.social

The experienced bird handlers took the bird in overnight. It made a full recovery and was released on Thursday morning. Video below (thanks to Luke Nelson for sharing)

On Wednesday evening, SBSG Members and Guests enjoyed a passionate talk on the subject of Swifts and the wider (thorny) issues surrounding accommodating nature in matters of planning and development.
