This male paper wasp can’t sting-he doesn’t have the parts for it. Only lady Hymenoptera (ants, bees, wasps) can sting. The stinger is a modified ovipositor (ovo = egg).

Even without the stinger, males still make a stinging motion…just with their genitalia.
