Snowy walk from visiting Mile End friends to the Japanese-style covered street of St Hubert. Recently renovated from the 40+ year old slanted glass breezeways. See old street view. Seems quite contemporary again after looking quite dated. Found an open restaurant 🍔 Long live real cities.

Downtown from the windows of the new St Catherines Holt Renfrew/Ogilvy. Way bigger than Toronto.

For my notebook: Toronto is a cobbled together city, Montreal is a put together city.
Both good but fundamentally different things.

As I tried to conjure in my column, it’s one of the most multicultural (and working class) beach experiences I’ve ever had (I am a beach person & will go to the beach anywhere/everywhere). The GTA getaway. Another layer to this potential tragedy.

Wasaga is one of the last large stretches of public beach that working class GTA residents have access to, so of course Dougie wants to take it away from them

Montreal has so many new buildings since I spent a lot of time here 20 years ago but not the same boom level as Toronto so there are still parking lots around & classic parking huts, a rare thing in TO.
