So as a former libertarian, I have considerable experience here. What you're saying is definitely true for a subset of people who call themselves libertarian but definitely not true for the group as a whole.

But we've all seen rents just skyrocket all over the place. Pretty much every major metro had its rent way outpace inflation over the last decade.

True, but at least on that first point, in many cases, the underlying logic behind "reducing incentives" would also favor a ban, and people seeking a ban through political means will do it incrementally if they can't do it all at once.
