it seemed impolite to ask. it was the lone "deep technical" interview for a management position at a game tech/studio place. IIRC we then settled on designing a bookmark sharing service instead

I had a one of a pair of interviewers ask me that a decade ago, and I just let out a "whoo" as I sat back in my chair, and the other one just stared at the asker and said "let's skip this one, I think"

if you look at what ostensibly-liberal political bodies have been doing in the face of rampant illiberalism—whatever I may think of the overall utility of liberal politics themselves—it has been a tremendous concession of political and even rhetorical power to the exact forces they exist to fight
