There’s something about rewatching a tv show and realizing you’re older than characters that were the older/mature character when you first saw them. Giles and Dr. Cox, I’m looking at you.

One of my dogs sheds twice a year: 1. January-June and 2. June-January.

He's some kind of corgi-lab mix, so that tracks. One of his nicknames is ScruffyButt.

A journalist asked President Trump if it would have been fitting to lower flags to half-staff when Melissa Hortman, the Minnesota House Speaker, was gunned down in June.

“I’m not familiar. The… who?” Trump responded. https://wapo.st/4gnHUnm

Klobuchar points out even conservative think tanks say @JDVance is wrong, and political violence is actually 6x higher on the right — she asks Kash to tell Trump & Vance to stop lying.

He says he will. (He won’t)

My wildflower patch is finally taking off, and it only took a few years of half-hearted seeding and aggressive removal of redbud stems 😜

Got a nice wall calendar from the Nature Conservancy, was excited since we want to try going back to a physical thing we'll always see... and then realized it's for 2026. oops.

Think 2025 calendars will be half-off since the year is half-over?

I dreamed last night that I was teaching the first lab of a semester and instead of laptops a bunch of students had brought their whole PC setups. This seems inefficient.

🚨 Not a drill: NSF GRFP results are NOW OUT!!!!!

But...good news and bad news.

👍 I'm *thrilled* for the grad students for whom getting this award will be life-changing, esp now.

👎 # of fellowships went down by 51%

(1000 this year vs. 2036 last year)

Another visit to the in-laws has come and gone, and once again I have not snuck into their tv settings to turn off the motion smoothing. Maybe next time.

Every semester I draw a lot of anatomy diagrams on the whiteboard, so I decided to put my dubious camera and editing skills to work. I've got a lofty goal of a video a week until I run through my "usual" diagrams, but we'll see.

I think one of the things I tell people about being a professor (or teacher!) that makes total sense but they never thought about: proctoring tests is the absolutely most boring part of the job.
