Trees begin to stop photosynthesizing in fall as light decreases & the chlorophyll degrades/ is recycled. Its absence reveals the carotenoid, xanthophyll, & anthocyanin pigments that remain. I think it is the anthocyanin pigments that form later & the others are there all along. It has been awhile!

The leaves are supposed to be good against poison ivy. I have not tried it, though. I have lots of poison ivy, but I pulled the horsenettle out before I read about its uses. 😹
