Cute compact pink form of butterfly bush, about 1-1/2' tall. Still flowering in October!

🌱 Syringa 'Penda' Bloomerang®️/ reblooming dwarf lilac [Syringa × 'Josée f. × unknown hybrid m.; 'Josée' herself is [S. meyeri × (S. pubescens ssp. microphylla × S. p. ssp. patula)]. Spring features larger more pinker panicles; those in late Summer-Fall are smaller & purpler. Blooming now z7! 💜

🌱 Eastern black swallowtail/ Papilio polyxenes asterius (Stoll) finally alights on a red dahlia/ Dahlia parvibracteata (Saar & P.D. Sørensen) so I can take her picture. 🦋
Black swallowtails, pipevine swallowtails, and monarchs, as well as many bees favor this nonnative to my area single dahlia.

🌱 Passiflora 'Inspiration' is a lovely tetraploid cross by Dr. Roland Fischer of US native P. incarnata × the Brazilian P. cincinnata. It is hardy to at least 40F, and may regrow from the roots at colder temperatures. Carpenter bees swarmed the flowers. 🐝

When I saw this, I had visions of mega-mantises, but unfortunately prehistoric mantises were not outsized. They do date back to the Jurassic, which is still pretty impressive.

Asylum headstones and marker from 1800s to early 1900s. Patients and the unclaimed impoverished were interred here. It was legal to perform autopsies upon them without familial consent until 1943.
