Board games and game design, Ohio governance, bad jokes, disconcerting recipes
In Chicago for the weekend, drove past Loyola - Bellarmine Hall, Campion, Gonzaga, Ignatius, Marquette, Xavier - and it made me really glad that Francis was Pope because the Jesuits definitely could use more people to name stuff after.

I wonder if a lot of people casually using and accepting LLMs think they’re basically just newer better versions of Watson that beat Ken Jennings at Jeopardy 15 years ago, and forget that the team programming Watson took great pains to ensure its answers were accurate.

I just this morning learned of the death last week of Joe Don Baker, whose work (like Emmet Walsh and many others) exemplified two big life lessons:
1. You are usually not the main character.
2. Still, if you give whatever story you’re in your best, you can make it a lot better.

Here's a really visceral example of why everyone should be upset about potentially privatizing the USPS-- whether you ship things, or have things shipped to you, you would be VERY effected.
That price from UPS is the next "cheapest" international rate compared to USPS rates.

My good deed for the day:
A friend posted an adorable selfie with their dog, and the caption “Any dog is a lap dog if they believe hard enough,” and I heart emojied and did NOT reply “Try telling that to Jeff Sessions.”

Are there any action movies where the bad guys get a training montage?

In Rocky III there’s a montage where scenes of Rocky (now champ) at the gym having a photo op where he pretends to train are interspersed with scene of Clubber Lang training ferociously.

Other, better examples?

This is a critical victory for trans rights.

No, autocomplete, while I do deserve an 8 hour nap, I definitely should not actually get one.

Watching the last 11 days, I just keep thinking “oh, I remember when that happened on Babylon 5.” So, thanks @straczynski.bsky.social for being prescient.

Over Christmas my oldest and I played 4 turns of East Front. He liked it. So today at 11 we started setting up West Front and explaining the additional rules for paradrops, sea invasions et. al. At 2:20 we were ready to start the first turn.

Longest day, indeed.

We tell children the answer to school mass shootings is live shooter drills and bulletproof backpacks and then act surprised when they grow up and their response to gun violence is dark humor.

Looking to re-home 3 long-disused but in good shape American Girl dolls plus various furniture and accessories. If you know a girl any or all of this would bring joy to, text or DM me.

For some reason this year is the first December 7 that nobody in my Facebook feed is urging me to remember a devastating surprise loss 83 years ago.

I have shared the same bathroom with Sarah McBride on several occasions, and she never once made me uncomfortable. She did however help me fix my makeup. That congresswoman knows how to blend her foundation, which is more than I can say about Donald Trump.

Biden should commute all federal death sentences. He claims to oppose the death penalty now, the risk of a political backlash is now moot, and it would be a historic, legacy-making move.

The Constitution makes ONE simple demand of officeholders. Like instructing Adam & Eve to lay off the fruit, the Framers said, "you may want a fancy European title but the nation's integrity demands you refuse." Alito just ignored the Constitution's command.

It turns out Sam Alito hates the Constitution as much as you thought he did.

Isn’t this EXACTLY what fiscal conservatives want? If the national debt is too high, shouldn’t the federal government take in more in taxes than it outlays and remove the surplus from circulation?

Spotify once again, out of a giant 18 hour road trip playlist on shuffle, gave us Country Roads just as we reached the West VA border, which was impressive until just now we got 25 or 6 to 4 at 25 or 6 after 4. Try harder Spotify!
