I wonder if the better analogy might be MLB making alcohol readily available to the players - the thing I’m stuck on is how what we’re all thinking (“why would you risk all this for that insignificant a reward?”) is expecting rational behavior in the face of something we know to be compulsive.

My point is that at the end of the day, the abuse that gets hurled in comments sections is almost always being absorbed by people who have nothing to do with what’s happening and often are themselves being exploited by the same people.

(And yes, someone can be platinum glove worthy one year and absolutely average the next, defense is weird and catching is hard and if you’re busy hitting 60 home runs your defense *is* going to suffer)

We talk a lot about how it’s hard to fully reckon with when you hear a number rather than seeing the real people affected but I, personally, think the president should be capable of conceptualizing that. But ours never got past the developmental stage where everyone else is effectively an NPC, so.
