Can anyone recommend a good #writing discord? I'm looking for a community where we can talk craft, exchange ideas and support and maybe some writing sessions. I'm into spec fic but have been in a major rut and am struggling to get ideas to a workable stage and am hoping that a community would help

I've been struggling with writing for over a year now, and I finally started something! Only a thousand clumsy words, but I'll take the victories I can get. I'm also striking out on a new path and attempting to be a pantser, so we'll see how that goes.

So I've started freelancing now, and 30 hours of my week are dedicated to one client - I'm basically going to take over the whole content operation - and I weirdly.... miss slack? I see why freelancers work in coffee shops now.

Weirdly, being far too busy at work has had an effect of confidence building. You can't second guess your ability if you don't have time to consider the issue.

The problem here is that these arguments are, for the most part, all being created by like the CMO of an AI startup. Now they're editorials parroting talking points, but just before the AI boom they were LinkedIn posts by AI execs... And nobody checked the sources before buying into the hype
Having read a bunch of really sharp critiques of AI, I’ve found myself assuming that AI entrepreneurs must have equally smart arguments. I’m always astounded to find that they don’t: it’s just easily disproven boosterism. But then, of course it is. It doesn’t matter, because capital is behind them.

I remember the blizzard of '96 that shut down school for a week, and the tunnels we dug in the snow drifts, and the neighborhood snowball fight and the snow forts

A colleague left at work and tomorrow is the first day without her. The other will leave soon. It's bothering me more than I thought it would, because on one hand if I prove myself it could be a big step up, but on the other, it's a lot of pressure without stability.

I've been feeling uncreative lately. But to be honest, I think it's an issue of mental fatigue. I've spent the last two weekends doing chores and home things--cooking, baking, closet purging--and I'm hoping it will help.

It feels insane to admit this, but I miss having more of a #writerscommunity to chat with. There was a time when I had a whole community of mutual writer friends on the bird app and it made me feel like I had something to chase. I say this as a pro copywriter with IRL writer friends.

I read somewhere that mainstream media stopped valorizing Greta Thunberg the minute she started connecting climate change to imperialism. Honestly, I thought she had just opted for a more private way of life or something. But nah, they want her to shut up.

Because here's the thing. Even as a person, even if it's all true, a celeb's public persona is marketing.
