Overall I thought Mexodus was an entertaining show telling a part of American history that most likely haven’t been exposed to. I imagine this could become popular in some parts of the educational sphere… I’d recommend for kids who like history and technical music nerds #broadway #subwayreviews

After curtain they acknowledged a friend in the audience, where we all gave them a “Happy Birthday” and the cast thanked them for their encouragement. They also indicated there was concept album involved at some point (I checked Spotify but no link).

It’s enough to keep you engaged, and as a music lover I enjoyed the format. Audience reaction was interesting. At the start we were encouraged to sing and dance, but I didn’t see anyone take them up on their offer. About a quarter seemed to be pretty into it, often cheering and responding to lyrics.

Following Henry, who would have drowned trying to cross the Rio Grande if Carlos, a Mexican farmer, hadn’t found him. Their unlikely friendship is told via a series of ballads, along with each providing their own musical backstory. Some of the songs are upbeat, but it’s not quite the energy of Six

I could actually see the cue screen, normally showing a conductor but in this case was a slide deck, which had some fun Easter eggs. What unfolds on stage is a presumably fictional story about the real migration across the border into Mexico of enslaved Africans searching for a better life.

At least, I think? Disclaimer: I haven’t seen Hamilton, yet (I’ll finally be seeing it in November!) What I do know is Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson are talented musicians whose choreographed loop of samples required an exacting command of a stage full of mics, instruments, and other hardware

I’ll say it is captivating, though. Jacob’s growth through the show felt real, and the fast paced storytelling keeps you engaged one way or another. I also appreciated the stripped down but surprisingly dynamic light design. Punch is worth a watch #broadway #subwayreviews #theater

Sometimes, no. At least one character pokes fun at this: looking at his nametag before announcing his name. I often found myself wondering “who is this actor playing now?” instead of paying attention to the story. Fortunately, the story isn’t particularly complex, so you can jump right back in.

Played by Will Harrison, who gives a vigorous, visceral, monologue-like performance. The story is muddied by an ensemble cast playing multiple characters. Will Victoria Clark be Jacob’s grandma? Or the grieving mother of the slain man. Will the actor even leave stage before becoming someone else?
