Honestly probably so.

Ted Cruz’s list of suspect NSF grants included stuff like “biodiversity.”

I grew up in Ohio. I’m so sad at what the state has become.

Barf. I wouldn’t brag about that.

I’m also from Ohio. It’s so sad to see what has become of the state.

I count my lucky stars I got out of Texas when I did.

I’m lukewarm on Francis… he has a tendency for gay slurs and tepid support for real change beyond just cuddly language. Still I shudder at a Dolan or Burke administration.

I met him in the 06 cycle when he was the chair of the Democratic House campaign committee. He was intense, he had bad breath, and he was insanely combative. I did not like him one bit. He’d be a total hit <sarcasm> on the campaign trail.

It’s unfortunately going to make grad schools and thus academia more white and more wealthy.

I read the business structure for dentists is different from MDs. Since mds are moving to large corp groups they’re more regular employees (lean left) whereas dentists retain that GOP feel (albeit that’s Romney style).

I did have a dentist tell me once what I study isn’t real. I got a new dentist.

Often private shelters are the ones taking the animals frm public shelters. We need volunteers… especially fosters. My foster list was often full. Sometimes a foster would only be free for a few hrs until the next cat came.

I absolutely applaud you forfostering. I cherished each of my foster cats.

I spent time on the county shelter board in a seat reserved for a someone involved in rescue. I spent a ton of time trying to convince the county the shelters needed more. I argued unsuccessfully for a large scale TNR program. The fact is shelters need a lot (public and private both).

I’ve been involved in rescue for years (mostly cat). Private and no kill shelters have to say no a lot. It hurts

Being supportive of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ political activity was not something I had on my bingo card.

I put the vote at 7-2. With Alito and Thomas being the 2. I’d like them both impeached and removed for a whole host of reasons.

I wonder how much of it might be like Build Back Better? Republicans vote against it and then credit claim. I could see a world where the GOP guts higher ed and then blames the Democrats.

Well history was just an undergrad major, on paper it was American history, but in practice modern Middle Eastern.

The biggest thing I learned in that major was how to write efficiently and well.

Do you have a colleague you are friends with? Someone who is your mentor? It can be a good idea to shadow on them. I often go to these things alone too and when I have been new, ppl have gone out of their way to include me. Hopefully your colleagues are similarly inclined.
