Because the idea that 'median voter' = 'centrist' is completely absurd. The two have next to zero relation to each other. 'Median voters' have opinions all over the map, most aren't that politically engaged, and they can be pulled in all kinds of directions if you have a compelling message for them.

Yep. We knew this 2 years ago when Andy Beshear won by flipping *coal country* blue without waffling on trans rights or abortion. People are mobilized by genuine leaders who stick to their values, not wishy-washy 'moderates' who toss vulnerable people overboard because some consultant told them to.
