well, I'm supposed to return to office next week.... but I don't have an office assignment and my team is spread across the country. According to the email we received, they're planning to consolidate as many teams as possible in the same location asap. my job is probably on the cutting block.

The Privacy Acr of 1974, states that the IRS (or any Fed Agency) must inform employees the reasons why they are requesting information, how it will be used, and what could happen if they don't provide it.

Ok, so IRS got the 5 bullet points, justify your job, email. Our Union NTEU is saying to not respond at this point until National NTEU has a chance to assess the implications of responding.

Some federal employees aren't currently doing in-person protests - we're doing our jobs or because in this chaos it may increase our chances of being fired. What happens when we don't have jobs to worry about any more? I know I can be petty, spiteful, and malicious if I have nothing to lose.

An entire CSR class was just fired while in their OJI period. They had been training for almost 3 months to answer refund calls.

🚨Elon Musk’s DOGE operatives are attempting to access confidential tax information — tax returns, bank data, Social Security numbers — for millions of Americans.

Illegal access can lead to jail time under federal law.

@wyden.senate.gov and I are investigating and fighting back.

Let me speak to the DOGE audit language. Many people who work in both the Treasury and specifically the IRS are CPAs. Most audit firms hire CPAs. A 19yo coder has absolutely no idea how to accurately identify waste or fraud. Calling what DOGE is doing as a audit, is a flat out lie.

This
IRS employees are closely monitored when using that sensitive IDRS system. Having a rando DOGE asshat, access this information is a massive failure in protecting Taxpayers. Of course this is a violation of Federal Law. Law is slower than the DOGE idiots.

IRS employees can get fired or go to jail for looking at taxpayer data that's not directly related to their job duties. There's no way DOGE should be getting more access than people who have been background checked to look at it only as needed.
🚨 SCOOP: DOGE is seeking personal taxpayer data at IRS, sources tell me. 🚨

Trump admin is pushing IRS to agree to an MOU that would give DOGE access to granular data on every taxpayer, business and nonprofit in the country.

You may know that probationary employees across many gvmt agencies have been let go. These employees have less than a year of experience. They are often high turnover positions(CSRs, etc). CSRs at my agency take 3 months to train. And we can't hire.
