This is a case of buyer beware, as it’s your responsibility as the new owner that the vehicle and its equipment is compliant with all Highway Traffic Act sections and regulations. 4/4

Our tint meter showed the side windows had 84% tint, so only 16% VLT (Visual Light Transmission). The driver stated they had purchased it from a local used car dealer where they were told it had passed a safety and there was no issue with the tint. 3/4

A warning was given regarding side window and top windshield tinting. It’s a subjective test whether or not an officer has a view into the driver’s cabin, but regulations stipulate no more than 30% tint on the front side windows. 2/4

This led to the driver also not having a valid insurance card on them and couldn’t locate one digitally on their phone (which is acceptable, but driver’s licence and vehicle registration have to be tangible). That’s a $65 fine under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA). 2/2

Some are former breath technicians while others will be new techs. Regionally, by the end of the month, approximately 40 officers will be trained & will later receive their provincial designation. Thank you to the O.P.P. & Centre of Forensic Sciences for assisting with the logistics and instruction.

While not as serious, multiple parents were warned about stopping/parking in ‘No Stopping’ zones. It decreases sight lines near intersections & still increases the risk to children/other pedestrians. A normal ‘No Stopping’ bylaw fine is increased from $30 to $70 in school zones. 2/2
