Climate action advocate. Born at ~310 ppm. @estee_nj on Twitter etc. Climate solutions & #energytwitter fan. Unitarian Universalist, @cclusa.org, Cornell. She/her/hers. Band person.
I hope @jamellebouie.net gives his current thoughts.

I am a bit leery of the “ok, let’s let ourselves touch the stove” theory, bc I’m afraid of who gets burned. But I find his remarks last year compelling, esp the quote below. www.nytimes.com/2024/09/27/o...

It was a pleasure to be back on campus in Ithaca at Cornell this week.

One of the topics at the meeting I attended was GenAI in the classroom.

The most disturbing thing I heard is that the profs think students work in study groups less often now bc they have GenAI to lean on. 😔

Red Bank NJ had a good turnout today. #NoKings

and civilization will end in the next 20 years.

Other than that, lots of kids made “clean energy bracelets” with me.

My @cclusa.org chapter did a tabling event today in central NJ. As it happened, our spot was right across the street from the local GOP.

I went and talked to them, and I’m still processing.

One convo was w a guy who repeated Secy. Chris Wright’s talking points almost vebatim. 1/

I’m working on a music playlist for Sun Day. #sunday (I’ll put a good list I found in the replies.)

I also looked for EV songs. Amazingly, Apple Music has a couple dozen songs called “Electric Car”. All obscure. But obvs EVs are an evocative idea. 🔌💡

P.S. There r very few songs called “Heat Pump”.

At last, I’m reading John Vaillant’s “Fire Weather”. It’s straight-up good storytelling, alongside thoughtful explorations of questions like “why are humans so bad at imagining new catastrophic events, even when all the info is right in front of us?”. Highly recommended. #books

Have a good weekend. And don’t forget to #TalkAboutClimate.

Anybody got a gift link to Greg Ip’s piece in the WSJ today?

At a time when our democracy is at risk, I volunteer for an organization whose slogan is "Our solution to climate change? Democracy."

So when the going gets tough, the tough go to Capitol Hill and remind Congress that it's their job to fight the climate crisis. @cclusa.org #GrassrootsClimate

Today is @cclusa.org Lobby Day on Capitol Hill.

I couldn’t be there this year, but our CCL chapter is represented along w hundreds of other CCLers!

I must say, our team is giving off a bit of a MIB vibe this morning. #GrasrootsClimate 1/

🤷🏻‍♀️ NYTimes reporting says rather energetic warnings came at 5:30 am. But our systems for acting on them clearly are bad. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/04/w...

OTOH It’s nice that the solar has been cranking today.

Good point. I flew it regularly after 9/11. Maybe it’s time to get it out again.

NCAA Lacrosse Final today in Massachusetts. Cornell vs. Maryland. Let’s Go Red! (On ESPN.)

I’d be there w the band, but the last time I played the cymbals for two hours, I couldn’t move my arms for a week. #IAmOld And I would have missed my fave local Memorial Day event.

Good piece (tho I don’t really get the last sentence.)

These observations caught my eye:

Charging along interstates is v good. I prefer charging in rest areas, but full svc rest areas don’t seem to exist down south, so I’m happy to get fast chargers 2-5 min off the highway.

And yes, I’m not selling my Tesla yet. I’ve got the bumper sticker tho. 😁 2/2

A propos of nothing…

#NewWord = “Square Grouper”

It seems to date from the 1970s or 1980s, and it is a term, possibly coined by law enforcement, for a bale of grass etc pulled out of the ocean off the FL coast. 😁
