#RecordOfTheWeek today is a stunning Scops Owl (Otus scops) which has been setting feathers aflutter in Swansea this week. Lots of birders have visited to see this rare vagrant from southern Europe.

#RecordOfTheWeek today is the Springtail Pogonognathellus longicornis, seen in Abernant by Mark Evans.

This is the largest Springtail species in the UK, reaching a massive 6mm 😁

#RecordOfTheWeek today is the rust fungus Puccinia caricina var. magnusii, on Carex riparia. Found by Mark Evans in Abernant back in April, the species was recently confirmed and is the first record for Wales!

#RecordOfTheWeek today is a magical Sorcerer (Aedia leucomelas), found at Kenfig National Nature Reserve by Tim Blackburn (@mothyblackburn.bsky.social) during a moth trapping session.

This is the first Welsh record for this very rare immigrant species!

#RecordOfTheWeek today is a lovely Rugged Oil-beetle (Meloe rugosus), spotted in Abergavenny by Justin Coey-archer.

This is an important sighting of this rare nocturnal species, with only 22 previous records in Wales.

#RecordOfTheWeek today is a Portuguese Man'O War (Physalia physalis) spotted in Llangennith by Phillippa Davies, washed by after last week's storms.
This species is not actually a jellyfish, but a colony of small creatures called zooids.

#RecordOfTheWeek today is Trapania pallida, a beautiful Sea Slug, spotted in Mumbles by Martin Bell. This is the first record we have for the SEWBReC area, and seems to be the 5th record for Wales!

#RecordOfTheWeek today is Oriental Fruit Moth (Grapholita molesta), found in Bridgend by Mike Cram. This is the first Glamorgan record for this non-native species, which likely hitched a ride on peaches.
