That’s also hard for me, to be honest. I try to detect positional weaknesses and/or weak (non defended) pieces, and from there try to build up a plan to exploit them

I play usually Colle system with whites, but to be honest I would recommend you to play whatever you feel comfortable with and strengthen the variants that might show up. In my case, I started improving more once I really try to find a reason behind every move I do and avoiding playing by “instinct”
