Let’s talk about yesterday. During a Department of Homeland Security press conference in Los Angeles led by Secretary Kristi Noem, Senator Alex Padilla (D‑CA) was forcibly removed, forced face-down on the ground, and handcuffed by federal agents. Here’s what to know:

“My concern is that there is going to be a large outbreak of not just measles, but other vaccine-preventable diseases as well, that’s going to end up causing a lot of harm, and possibly deaths in children,” said Dr. Anna Durbin of @johnshopkinssph.bsky.social.

The Constitution disagrees. The Emoluments Clause, part of Article I, Section 9, Clause 8, bans office holders from taking ANY gifts from foreign countries. There is no mention of quid pro quo. That is because the Founding Fathers knew that even the *appearance* of corruption promotes corruption.

Qatar is essentially providing Trump a $400 million jet. This is the type of corruption that the founders targeted in drafting the Emoluments Clause, which forbids the president from using his office for personal enrichment.
The Sky-High Corruption of Donald Trump
The Democrats missed their first chance to spotlight Trump’s repeated violations of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. They shouldn’t miss their second.

The Trump administration is threatening to arrest Congress members who were performing their oversight duties. Targeting elected officials for opposing the president's agenda is straight out of authoritarian playbooks.

We can’t arrest our way out of homelessness.

In the 1970s, CEOs made 27 times more than the average worker.

In the 1980s, CEOs made 48 times more than the average worker.

This decade, CEOs are making 354 times more than the average worker.

That has got to change.
