Naturally, it's got that "Exists On Switch" buff for a free clean +3-4mil sales over the default.

What happens when Link swings his sword at Ingo? Nothing.

Would it add an interesting game mechanic if Ingo died? Probably not.

So there is no reason to make it work that way.

In videogames with enemies, the monsters are obstacles. Obstacles are meant to showcase, train, or prove mastery of a game mechanic. Every enemy placed into the game world should serve that purpose. If Random NPC doesn't serve a mechanical purpose as a foe then it should never become one.

I used to dislike having my picture taken. Now I have an excuse to obliterate the smartphone of anyone trying to take a picture of me! I should start putting a minor filter on my voice in preparation for when Discord sells all our voicechats too.

I've been saying for years it was either:

1. Dev kept trying to make Open Worldtroid and it turned out crap so Nintendo wouldn't let them release it.

2. Dev kept trying to make Metroid but Nintendo wouldn't let them release it until they added Open World.

Yeah the levels themselves were cool! Just wish they were interconnected (but ofc, being on 3 different planets, that'd never work). Metroid thrives on a deeply interconnected map.
November 15, 2025 at 3:17 AM
Maybe it will, but a desert with the areas split across it is tough design work. I want Metroid games where the sub-areas are MORE tightly connected than Super Metroid and Prime were, not less. Splitting them up makes it like Corruption, except now we have to drive 5min to get between them.

They made a mildly annoying NPC to distract everyone from the fact that they took the Open World Mandate Mallet to the Game About Being In An Alien Maze Of Tunnels

Though much to our displeasure, Traversal/A-to-B Navigation are commonly confused with Exploring.

Even worse, making Traversal is *much* easier for developers than making Exploration. That's why Traversal Gameplay has so often replaced Exploration Gameplay across the industry in recent years.

Unfortunately, separating 5 Metroid regions into siloed mini-levels with a giant empty desert in between them doesn't help improve exploration. You need labyrinths to explore - places to get lost, find the path. You can't get lost in a videogame desert, only *traverse* it. Traverse!=Explore.

They also gave Metroid a flat open world so I think the venn diagram is actually quite nicely matched on that

ADVENTURERS! A quest! A necromancer has arisen in our midst! We require the services of a paladin and the clerics of at least three different gods!

...........Weighing my options, I think I actually WOULD take the Marvel quips over openworld.

I mean, at least I could mute my television while playing in the worst case.
November 14, 2025 at 6:53 PM
Oops, forgot alt text: Screenshot from the latest Metroid Prime 4 trailer showing a hologram of the world map which shows the 5 main level regions all completely separate from each other, only connected by a big empty desert.

fucking facebook going to keep killing this hardware with manufactured console war shit before it even has any fucking games
November 13, 2025 at 11:55 PM
The big benefit of AAA going to shit and my favorite genres dying is that when I find something I DO want to play I know I'll really enjoy it and can take my sweet time with it.

I'd actually get a ton of use out of Turbo but I refuse to buy it on principle because they keep enshittifying the site to try to convince me to buy it, so I'd rather sit through a purple COMMERCIALS IN PROGRESS at this point than reward their disgusting piggie behavior.
