ONE mile? in EIGHTEEN minutes? was the OLD requirement? that’s gone now?
the old standard was already leaning hard towards the army’s minimum required time for a TWO-mile run. i don’t remember requirements from when i was active duty, but they were definitely tougher than a 36-minute two-mile run.

this wall at my local va hospital used to have a row of portraits of prominent female former servicemembers from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, with some of their achievements. and now it's just blank. i cannot express how unwelcoming it feels, in contrast to how it had felt.
