Antonia Bance MP took the witness stand at the #EvidenceWeek reverse committee hearing this week, on behalf of the Business and Trade Committee. People from across the UK came to Westminster to put their questions directly to MPs, asking about the evidence behind the issues that matter most to them.

@alicemeadows.bsky.social discussed how misinformation has many sources and when voices or info are missing from public debates, by self of external censorship, we all lose. She also talked about an experimental possible way to increase transparency in some of these process with "Publication Facts"

Michael Meth from San Jose State University discussed how the role of curators is evolving, especially in the context of AI, how people clearly want curation (e.g. using AI summaries vs full searches) but we need good curation and libraries are uniquely placed to connect people to trusted resources.

We received the sad news yesterday that our founding chair, Dick Taverne, has passed away. Dick gave us 10 years as an energetic chair, and over 20 years as a tireless, fearless champion and friend. This past summer he was still writing about our work and the challenges ahead.

The DWP, DfE and HM Treasury's Get Britain Working White Paper FAILED our #EvidenceTransparency test.

If we can’t see the evidence behind policies, we can’t follow the motivation, decide whether we agree, or judge whether they work.

The Defra Water (Special Measures) bill has PASSED our #EvidenceTransparency test.

The bill clearly laid out the rationale behind its decision making and noted the benefits and costs of the proposal.
