Senator Fady Qaddoura
@senfadyqaddoura.bsky.social
State Senator for Indiana’s District 30 - Indianapolis
Gov Braun previously said he would only call a special session if both chambers had the votes. The Senate has already stated that they don’t. If he’s willing to break that promise now, what’s to stop him from doing it again?

This isn’t about left versus right. It’s about right versus wrong.

What does this special session mean for Hoosiers?
🗳️ Waste of taxpayer dollars to manipulate our maps
🚫 Erasing the two remaining Democratic seats
🔇 Silencing minority voices and votes
🤝 Rolling over to Trump’s political agenda

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said:

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”

If we can find trillions for war, we can find the means to feed our people.

Yet with the potential loss of SNAP benefits for over 40 million people due to the government shutdown, that reality feels closer than ever. Hunger should never be a political casualty.

I spent a few hours this morning serving vulnerable siblings in our community. No sibling, no fellow Hoosier, no American should ever go hungry.

Together we rejected fear and division, and stood for fair maps, free voices, and fearless communities.

Our movement is a promise: to protect our freedoms, uplift our neighbors, and make sure every Hoosier’s voice counts.

Standing on the Statehouse steps today, surrounded by thousands of Hoosiers, I felt what democracy is meant to be — people, not power.

We said No Kings because democracy has no throne — only neighbors willing to stand for one another.

I remain committed to fighting for commonsense solutions to reduce gun violence, protect Hoosiers and ensure our schools are safe places to learn and grow. #INForAll

Since becoming a state senator, I have filed legislation every year focused on reducing gun violence, and I will do so again in the 2026 Legislative Session. Students should not have to go to school in fear. Parents should not have to worry if their child will make it home safely.

Today, I joined Students Demand Action at the Statehouse as high school students across central Indiana walked out to demand action against gun violence. As someone who has lost a family member to gun violence, gun violence is not just a policy decision; it is personal.

It’s the greatest honor of my life to be your public servant.

From immigrating to the U.S., to experiencing homelessness (Hurricane Katrina) to serving in the IN Senate, my path has been anything but conventional.

Those experiences gave me a deeper understanding of how programs can uplift the vulnerable & showed me firsthand the struggles so many people face.

“The most beautiful thing in life is to belong.”

I appreciate the @IndyStar for remembering the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and for sharing stories about survivors, including my journey from loss and despair into public service.

SB 317 would:

✅ Ban liens & wage garnishment for low/fixed-income families
✅ Require hospitals to enhance financial aid & payment options

No one chooses cancer or chronic illness. No family should face lifelong debt for care. I’ll keep fighting for Hoosiers. #INForAll

My bill SB 317 (Medical Debt Relief) fell just short this past session (23–26), but I secured a summer study committee and will reintroduce it in 2026.

Indiana’s health care system is broken — too many Hoosiers are crushed by medical debt while hospitals and collectors blame patients.

Let me be clear: I fiercely oppose gerrymandering in Indiana. And in the 2026 session, I’ll reintroduce my legislation once again.

Dr. King warned of “the high blood pressure of words and the anemia of deeds.” I will not be silent. I will keep fighting because our democracy depends on it. #INForAll
