The #send system needs to recognise what the problem is.
the problem is not the law.
the problem is not #ehcp
the solution is not more turmoil, erosion of standards or destruction of opportunities for young people.

It cost over half a billion to implement #send in 2014.

how much will further reforms cost?

how much will be wasted on consultants and committees?

how about - & this may be controversial - £ goes to actually helping #send rather than discussing it.

and it was with no surprise whatsoever that I spot this on the East Sussex CC's template to request an EHC needs assessment.

A requirement to complete an "Additional Needs Plan" before requesting an assessment.

Totally unlawful

I iive in Cornwall and we have a 21 year old son with Prader Willi Syndrome. He got his EHCP at 3 and it was created efficiently and in a timely manner. I now find that only 1.6% of EHCPs in Cornwall are written within the 20 week deadline. I'm stunned and frankly disgusted

This is gravely concerning

This is driven by - and coupled with - continually poor decision-making; itself the result of a chronically under-funded and under-resourced (in terms of professionals/schools etc. etc.) system.

Another great day.
Specialist residential placement secured for a young man with profound physical difficulties.
Should have been resolved long before, but always good to know the right placement and provision has been secured

Good start to the day when you see an email from an #send case officer to a parent containing;
1. a refusal to consult with parent's preferred school (unlawful); and
2. reference to an Act that does not exist.

Remind me again how anyone concluded the problem with the #ehcp system is parents?

Took part in a mediation meeting last week. For a contentious discrimination claim.
Mediation revealed that the whole claim was the result of a local authority misleading everyone else involved.
Issue resolved & core problem identified. Wouldnt have happened through a hearing

Not sure what is sadder about this piece. Either;
a. the truth of the material within it; or
b. the fact no one involved in SEND is remotely surprised / disagrees with my comments that LAs deliberately delay in order to save cash
