concert today with Esa-Pekka Salonen leading and Pierre-Laurent at the piano. Superb program of Boulez/Debussy in the first half. Then Debussy’s Fantaisie for piano/orchestra followed by a La Mer with a clarity I’ve never heard before. Bravi !
Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts Debussy’s La Mer, a thrilling sea voyage portrayed in rich orchestral colors, plus dances from Images. The NY Phil celebrates Pierre Boulez’s centennial with acclaimed pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard performing selections from Boulez’s Notations for solo piano in dialogue with the composer’s own orchestrations, as well as Debussy’s radiant Fantaisie for Piano and Orchestra. An image form today’s concert’s first half with pieces by Pierre Boulez (Notations IV, VII, and II, in piano and then orchestral versions) interpreted with two movements of Debussy’s Images for Orchestra (Gigues and Rondes de printemps.) The pianist was Pierre-Laurent Aimard. And image from the second half of today’s New York Philharmonic program with Debussy’s Fantaisie for Piano and Orchestea (with Pierre-Laurent Aimard) followed by Debussy’s La Mer.

Mitsuko Uchida is coming to Carnegie Hall next Saturday and is playing Mozart 18 and 21. I can’t wait!
