There is a particular flavor of the sublime that is waking up midday after a p.m. or night shift, and having the ability to go lie in your yard, listen to the tree branches creak and the birds sing, and just… Lie there making vitamin D with your coffee and a book for a little bit.

They would crack down if you were taking photos instead of doing your job, for sure, but you could ask permission to skylark and get some photographs, or sneak one in natural pauses in the workflow, if you were really paying attention.

After a few moments of pretending to be a surgeon, I managed to pull this lovely half-inch beast out of the toe of my slipper. The patina on the metal makes me think that it’s actually been there since they were constructed some years ago, and just worked loose to where I could feel it.
