There's something almost poetic about today's find...

Weird as it sounds, I don't mind seeing a library book looking like this after circulating for several years. I'd much rather see a book circulating from 2013 that's tattered and loved, than one in pristine condition from being rarely opened!

Sometimes when reviewing children's books, it's important to check the illustrations. This is especially true with non-fiction, as some publishers will just slap in any stock photos. Today I came across one of the worst (best?) examples and laughed so hard.

Phew! Much better! A big thank you to my one blue Sargent Art permanent marker. I may have to stock up before they're all gone...

I learned a very important lesson about Mod Podge today.

I don't know if my teen volunteers will be more upset that this happened or gleeful that I'm coloring it over after telling them how much I hate coloring. 😭

Where do I put it?! C'mon, publishers/cover designers, sometimes you KNOW you need to leave a little blank space!

It also makes me extra glad that "One Big Open Sky" is the one with multiple awards! Imagine if she'd written "Many Cluttered Things" or the like! 😅

"And other duties as needed."

No, this isn't bragging or complaining. Sometimes, it's a tightrope walk between doing what's right in the long run (making sure the contracted people do their job- which the wind makes difficult) and doing what right in the short term (keeping library patrons safe).

Sometimes, my job is reading & singing with kids, finding the best book(s) for a reader, & learning everything I didn't know I needed to know about Roblox/Minecraft/Pokemon/etc. Sometimes, my job is huddling outside in the rain, lighting fabric scraps on fire to determine their fabric content.
