please reconsider any impulse you may have today to engage members of marginalized groups in conversations about people whose hatred of them has been extensive and well-documented. find someone else to talk to about that.

Precisely. I spoke up in the labor room, and the nurse said "are you telling me how to do my job?".
Ofc Black women must speak up for ourselves

But that's only effective if care providers listen

Even in the opening anecdote of this story, the woman spoke up. The nurses did not listen. Fortunately an obstetrician finally did—90 damn minutes later.

Teach medical professionals to LISTEN.
Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes as White women. Doulas, midwives, nurses and obstetricians are explicitly preparing Black women to speak up loudly for themselves in the delivery room.

I loved when 80’s trailers would say full names of characters we don’t know.

“Stan Smitty has a problem.

His wife turned into a beagle.

Now he has 24 hours to turn her back or lose the big promotion at work.

This summer Stan must decide if he really meant when he said…

Till Death Do Us Bark.”

This is partially why my bookcase is upstairs in the office. Visiting my house and seeing family portraits in the living room is one thing. Seeing my book collection is a whole other level of vulnerability.
I love looking at people’s personal libraries. Especially the books that people tell me they read over and over throughout their lives.

It’s like seeing the foundational texts of someone’s life, values and interests.

What are your personal foundational texts?

The Defying Gravity scene absolutely HIT in theaters. By that point in the movie, I trusted Cynthia to kill it, but she knocked it out of the park.

My Thanksgiving Eve tradition is getting a little drunk, making an apple pie, and listening to something new. This year, it's all GNX react videos on YouTube. Last year, it was true crime podcasts.

NEW: Porsha Ngumezi is the fifth case we've reported on in which a woman died after not receiving a D&C or its second-trimester equivalent in time, or at all.

Her case raises questions about how abortion bans are pressuring doctors to avoid standard care even in straightforward miscarriages.
A Third Woman Died Under Texas’ Abortion Ban. Doctors Are Avoiding D&Cs and Reaching for Riskier Miscarriage Treatments.
