Overall it's hard to make sense of this request within a Spoonflower context. About the only way that basics make sense is if someone is putting together their own cheater quilt of designs using the square patch (fill-a-yard) tool on the website (ie not really cutting out & sewing pieces together).

So my own set of "basics" is not really all that basic; and I chose black & white to make them go together because of course each colour or palette would need its own set - and that's far too many to fit in a collection of just 48 designs.

But as a set of designs to be printed & sold by Spoonflower it doesn't make much sense - because those are literally the types of basics which people would be able to buy from stock in a regular shop at a much cheaper price. Custom printing is designed for custom/niche designs!

So this is the current state of my own #Valentine collection on Spoonflower:

What I haven't added (at the moment) are solid colours or pseudo-solid textures.

I had a reasonable back-catalogue myself. So it was mostly about making sure I had versions using the same colour scheme as each other and also covering some of the missing standards (dots & stripes as well as "hero" designs & more ditsy fills).

PS they allowed for anti-valentine sentiment too.

Here's that final collected set of (UK) "heritage" designs (limited to a maximum of 48 by the Spoonflower entry rules - hence me not using any of my pre-existing collections of things for this project):

The final component I chose for that collection was some basic pictish spirals to act as subtle background filler instead of solid colour fabrics (which no-one sensible would be buying from a custom printing place). Again, my existing spiral work had been on paper not on the computer.

The next component I brought in was celtic knotwork (which is claimed by several ethnic groups as part of their identity). Again I'd already done a lot of designs but mostly in hand-drawn sketch form. So quite a lot of re-working, re-colouring & uploading was required to make those compatible.

The tartan essentially defined the restricted palette for the collection - which is largely the same as heraldic core colours. This choice allows for future expansion into using heraldry as the central theme of another collection which will blend with the existing set of designs.

What I had actually worked on was putting together a set of designs (to cover the usual shapes of dots, stripes & fills) based on celt, pict & scot ideas. I'd already done extensive work on tartans. So I selected the Stewart Royal tartan because you don't have to belong to the specific clan.

Anyhow, the first category I looked at was "heritage" but it turns out in a separate piece of blurb that what they actually meant by that is the arts & crafts movement into art nouveau but without using the correct words to name it. Lots of people around the world have different heritages.

They had divided their wish list of topics into 3 batches with assigned deadlines. That initial deadline has now passed (yesterday) but when I used their (external?) submission form it had all of the themes on it at once, mixed up, with no note of the deadlines and with an extra topic too.

That's very like a xmas card I drew & sent out several years ago with a present-eating xmas tree.

The UK may have been less organised about it than the USA - ie at the level of individual teachers having pet projects.

Eg I was of special interest a few times and part of an experimental maths group at primary school. Other people I know were part of experimental computer or robotics groups.

The last offering for this advent batch is one of the tunes for While Shepherds Watch as a quickstep:

My addition of intro bars between verses seems to have turned it into something of a music hall song.

I've turned Deck The Halls into a jive by modifying the smooth quaver beats into swing ones:
