“Packing of wounds with haemoststic gauze… and application of direct pressure remains the mainstay of treatment”

Even as we get new, fancy, and fun tools, rapid temporizing with direct pressure and packing stays king.

But.. never pack the neck 🙃

BRASH syndrome ECG:
- subtle peaked T-waves from hyperkalemia
- bradycardia is *disproportionately* severe, as compared to the extent of hyperkalemia-induced morphology changes

Great thread with lessons that apply to preceptorship for new paramedics as well. #EMSsky

Especially love #1, don’t expect a novice to perform like an expert on their first day.

Target and work in their zone of proximal development!
Lets chat about teaching EM residents to be efficient...

I think there are 5 rules that are helpful

1.) Don't have unreasonable expectations
2.) Be strategic with how you interrupt
3.) Work on micro skills
4.) Let them know what you’re thinking
5.) Residents attend the huddle

Great listen with some excellent hockey analogies for us Canadians 🙂

Our selection processes often look to find top performers, but that’s only one piece of the puzzle.

How do we find the top performer who wants the puck on their stick to take that final shot?

Great episode!

What may be a routine job for us is a life changing event for the patient. Don’t forget the emotional and social support in extrication!

Fantastic listen with many pearls!

“Aim for flow acceleration and moving patients to definitive care even under suboptimal conditions”

“Focus on bridging interventions to temporise without delaying evacuation”
