Im aware of he irony of asking this on a social media platform…but has anyone read this?

I’m on page 29 and it’s already backing my constant need of the last couple of years to rebuilt a blog, 2000s style, and create a little online bubble…but I’m afraid that would be awfully lonely 😫

We need reasons to share cat pics?! 😏🤣

This year I want to make myself my own version of this brambly house treehouse…and I shall call it therapy for my arthritic hands 😏

So the lurgy I was afraid might be Covid turns out to be parvo

Well that’s bloody marvellous 😫

Luckily I have an attentive (if judgy and very needy) nurse…

Anyone have any cat pictures to cheer up my lurgy ridden heart??

“Hair of a selkie”

Trying a different way of drawing hair today, reminiscent of the 1970s mythology and fairy tale picture books of my late seventies childhood. Books I disappeared into and have never really come out of.

I love it!

"A Meremaid reaches for the Sunlight"

Another quick study of colour & texture, a meremaid, a mermaid like creature in Cheshire mythology that lives in our deep dark meres guarding church bells & treasure amidst the reeds & algae

“Selkie Textures & The World Within Us”

My arthritic hands can’t hold a pencil or brush for long just now…that means quick sketches & tiny layers of textures

I didn’t draw the first as a selkie but as a fast life study, so excuse the fact she has legs 🤣

About me:

I've started creating again after autistic burnout & Long Covid poked my childhood arthritis, which flared up in my hands (again)

I'm working towards doing a multimedia project on transformation in Cheshire & Scottish mythology

Used to be a sculptor & will be adding that at some point

“Curious puffin”

I drew this for my teenage son, he loves puffins and I was struggling with what to draw today 🥰

Puffins are so funny and friendly and curious…look at that face, and his feet!

Using pastel pencils on top of my watery gouache layers has lead to pages smudging into each other

So I have started adding tracing paper squares between sketches to stop the transference

The sound they make when turning pages now is divine!

Why do you think? How do you alter your sketchbooks?

“Red hair underwater”

The very left shows an attempt with just the pastel pencils but I need to layer over gouache…it’s my obsession!

Do adore the colours and matt smooth chalkiness of the Conté à Paris pastel pencils…was worth the set’s purchase

Testing my pastel pencils colour range when it comes to red hair like my Nanna’s…and my own…so I can create selkies and meremaids that feel like home

I need more colours…more auburns and russets

Don’t we always need more colours?

Too tired today to open my paints or get out anything but my pencil…

Sketchbooks aren’t just for colour and layered, finished work are they?

“Fallow deer”

When we were children we’d climb over Dunham Massey’s huge white styals & picnic under the trees

Eating in the parkland is now banned, maybe due to the number of times the deer herd stalked & mugged us for our butties

If you ever think to yourself, after a night of cPTSD night terrors, whilst feeling discombobulated

“Oh I know, I’ll immerse myself in my favourite old master painting of my childhood favourite Greek goddess, that’ll be lovely”
