Big Al Jolson fan.

And they put it at the 🔝 of the online Opinions list, ahead of the predictably wishy-washy editorial board take.

I’ve been saying that… The shutdown, and the disappearance of House Rs, gives them the “plenary” executive they want. Why would they want to end it?

En englais, s’il vous plaît…

The main point wasn’t the name (I was referring to “Mary,” rarely Jewish — not the last name)… it was the classic Jews & money slur in the post.
October 9, 2025 at 8:59 PM
Guessing “Mary E.” isn’t a Jewish name, so don’t bring it up — unless you’re an anti-Semite, of course. The biggest moneygrubber on earth is the oh so Christian President Dumpty.

They announce the prize this Friday 10/10, so no Nobel for the fat man. Greta Thunberg, please! Not only is it deserved, it’ll drive Dumpty nuts. (A short drive.)

The moment I saw Claudia breeze into the spa in 8½, I was gone.

When, where? Source?

Publication date is tomorrow (8/26) but if you order it from Fantagraphics today (I just did!) it gets under the wire for their 30% off sale.

“Trump shamelessly…” Redundant!

Is he speaking? Then he’s lying.

Double Indemnity, OF COURSE.

But the early talkies, especially Baby Face, are among her greatest… and then there are the later talkies…

Hope your plan doesn’t include winning the next election, because I don’t think there will be one.

Meanwhile, you say July 16, others say “Good Trouble” July 17. Danger of the resistance fragmenting? Hope not.

“Next time they win power.” What if there’s never another chance?

The odds on actually having elections — starting with the midterms — not good.

Back in the past (a week ago!) lawyers could state their opposition to judges who might enjoin the regime from acting. As of now, they can do anything, and break any law. Who’s going to stop them, the Supreme Court? Hahahaha! — bitter laugh.
June 30, 2025 at 10:20 PM
Gee, thanks for making an empty gesture when it’s already way too late!

So many ways you and the other comatose Dems could have tried to avert our slide into fascism.

But let’s wait for the “midterms” — in quotes because the regime will be making sure there are no more elections.

Arsenic and Old Lace tangent:

On Broadway, the evil brother was played by Boris Karloff. He wasn’t available for the movie, so Massey got the part. People keep telling the character that he looks like Karloff, which would have been hilarious on stage, but not so much on screen.

So great being frightening in so many movies… but I’m going to mention two of his comic performances: as Joel Cairo in The Maltese Falcon, and as Dr. Einstein, Raymond Massey’s partner in Arsenic and Old Lace. “Do it the quick way, Johnny!”
