Wakamotoharu LOVES wrestling. In fact, I met him last year in the lobby of a Stardom show. I recognized him through his KN95 mask (if he can, you can) & we talked. I wished him luck & told him I’d be in the audience at the basho. Anyway he was commentating the NOAH show last night & this happened:

Are we really going to see a double Yokozuna promotion?
On top of all the normal excitement for the first basho of the year, Hatsu 2025 brings the added anticipation of a potential double Yokozuna promotion. With Kotozakura and Hoshoryu both on rope runs, how likely are we to see two new Yokozuna in March? Taken individually, both men are in range of “normal” pre-Yokozuna careers. Since 1958, wrestlers promoted to Yokozuna have needed an average of 32 tournaments in makuuchi to achieve the rank.

Shikoroyama beya announces that Asashoryu's nephew, Gombo, who is starting at maezumo this basho, will be named Tenrosei.

He heya's previous foreigner was Shotenro, and it's the same Tenro - "heavenly wolf" (a Mongolian totem). The "sei" is "star".

I just happened to watch this program from NHK World. It's about the history of the chon-mage. Best watch it all, and near the end, they visit Otowayama beya, where Hagane's hair is done, and Otowayama oyakata talks about its significance to rikishi.
