For the diversity chapter in one of my classes, I do a DB re food as a cultural item & ask students to talk about their favorite thing on their holiday tables that represent their heritage or their family. Extra credit for the recipe. SO MANY students connect to each other over shared food.

Stewed tomatoes and okra, probably. I don’t actually like eating it but my granny made it a lot w the tomatoes and okra she grew.

Brussels sprouts grossed me all the way out when I was a kid but turns out everybody cooked them wrong. Roasted with herby butter and Parmesan added at the end? Omgggg

Breakfast and light lunch (sandwiches, soups, etc). I’d call it Bitsy’s after my mom.

Soups. I make a pretty good broccoli cheese soup (the only made-by-me soup my kid will eat. Otherwise it’s La Madeleine tomato basil or nothing). I like making vegetable stew, too, but I always make GOBS (how can you not??) & end up tossing the leftovers, which makes me sadder than a lot of things.

Soups. I make a pretty good broccoli cheese soup (the only made-by-me soup my kid will eat. Otherwise it’s La Madeleine tomato basil or nothing). I like making vegetable stew, too, but I always make GOBS (how can you not??) & end up tossing the leftovers, which makes me sadder than a lot of things.
My mom’s paella was so.damned.good. I have her pan but not her recipe. Or her skill and experience.

Sadly, Luby’s. Anything at Luby’s but I don’t know why anyone goes at all if they’re not eating fried fish and mac and cheese with strawberry shortcake for dessert. It’s gotten…blegh.

My JuCo had dorms. One roommate flunked out of the beauty school program & I’m 💯 sure she wore my clothes when I was gone for the weekend.
One was French and never once spoke to me except to tell me to stop snoozing my alarm.
Eventually I had a Spanish one & still love her to bits 35 yrs later.
