This #PrideMonth, watch our new short film: Who’s there?
It tells Alex's story, a #gay Malawian man who had hidden who he was all his life. After moving into our safe house for #LGBTQI people fleeing persecution he was finally free to be himself. #WhosThereMicroRainbow
Watch it here: bit.ly/3EMkeL3
Who's there? Micro Rainbow's new film
Alex had hidden who he was all his life. He was never able to be open about himself or his sexuality. He was hiding in plain sight, living like a ghost. Even after fleeing Malawi and reaching the UK, he was not safe to be truly himself. It was only when he got to Micro Rainbow safe housing and met Gabe – who was open and unapologetic about himself and his sexuality – that he began to become whole. It’s still illegal to be #LGBTQI in more than 60 countries – including Malawi, where Alex is from. And LGBTQI people fleeing persecution are still not safe when they reach the UK. Micro Rainbow provides safe, inclusive housing for LGBTQI people seeking protection in the UK. Micro Rainbow now has 30 safe houses across England and Wales, and can offer over 40,000 safe bed-nights a year to people like Gabe and Alex. Help us raise awareness of our work – share our film! Cast Gabe: Olly Roy Ghost/Alex: Melvin St James Crew Director/Producer: Tom Paul Martin DOP: Natalja Safronova Gaffer: Michal Kedracki Make-Up Artist: Hanni Wellian

In my latest blog I talk about #money.

About what it means to have it, not have enough of it, rely on fundraising for it, and what money really means in an organisation that puts people and the planet ahead of #profit.

I was tidying up a draw. I found this. It made me emotional.

💡 To create lasting change, we must build organisations that thrive, not just survive. What are your thoughts on financial resilience in the third sector?

2️⃣ Reserves vs financial vulnerability 💶
3️⃣ Sustainability vs solidarity 🌈

Today, it's important to remember that not everyone in the #LGBTQI community can express their love towards their partner without fear. Now living in our safe house, Akila and Udesh can finally do that.
Why not send them a welcome present?

More #SocialEnterprises can only be a good thing: they create safe spaces, employment opportunities, and financial independence for those (such as #LGBTQI refugees and asylum seekers) who are often excluded from traditional economies.
