Did you know? Sears Tower was originally scheduled to be topped out in September 1972. That timetable obviously fell way behind, since steel erection wasn't completed for an additional 8 months. Construction was likely hindered by the frigid Chicago winters.

On this day in 1973, the final white beam was installed atop the 110-story landmark, signalling a new era for Sears, Roebuck, and Co. and turning the title of world's tallest building over to Chicago. Happy Birthday Sears Tower!

The naming rights deal with Willis Towers Watson expired at midnight on April 1. That means that starting this month, the "Willis Tower" name is no longer an obligatory moniker (not that Chicagoans ever acknowledged that name anyway).

Did you know? The naming rights for "Willis Tower" officially expire this year? I can only hope that come 2025, the plan is to restore the building's rightful name of Sears Tower. 😊
