It's personal lived experience. The Kent State shootings and the My Lai massacre, along with the sad parade of body bags returning from 'Nam, finally shook the "average American" out of complacency. I watched it happen.

is that contemporary documentation of this in like old newspapers or something? i'm kinda curious

It took war crimes like the My Lai massacre for the American "middle class" to finally wake up and seriously start demanding an end to the Vietnam war.

i suppose it's the same deal with federal abuses in the immigration system. we really just needed someone obnoxious at the helm to bring it to the surface and make it everyone's problem
