Climate scientist studying methane dynamics in coastal wetlands. Especially interested in methane, isotopes, and methylotrophic methanogens. Postdoc @ Uni Münster
It's been a long time, but I was able to do some of my own #FieldWork in a Sylt #SaltMarsh a couple weeks ago. We tried installing some dialysis chambers (the mud puddles) and did some of my usual porewater collection with ceramic-tipped single point samplers. #WomenInSTEM #PostDoc 👩‍🔬 #PoreWater #GHG

After a couple days they're now clear with a crystalline precipitate. Has anyone ever seen this before?

I also have had some samples go light orange, which is not normal either.

I suspect the reagents are reacting to something in the samples. They're salt marsh porewater samples.

Hey #Science #Chemistry people, I had a weird reaction during methyl-blue photometric sulfide analysis. They started purple after reagents were added and reaction time had finished. I analyzed them, put them aside, and after maybe 10 minutes noticed they had turned fluorescent pink.

The past few weeks I've been traveling up and down the German North Sea coast vising Salt Mashes in the Wadden Sea as part of my work with the BMBF-funded project TRICMA2. I'm looking forward to working in the Salt Mashes this summer

I'm officially done with my PhD! I successfully defended on March 21st, and received my degree over the weekend. Here are a few pictures from my defense, with my advisors Prof. Dr. Susanne Liebner and Prof. Dr. Gerald Jurasinski, and one with most of the #BalticTRANSCOAST 3rd cohort PhDs.

I'm happy to announce that I started a new position at the #University of #Münster as a ( #Postdoc) #Researcher in the TRICMA2 project and have submitted my #doctoral #thesis! I know I've been quiet lately, but look forward to more field pics of porewater, this time from #Wadden #Sea salt #marshes!

I attended and presented at the international Peatland Science Conference organized by the University of Applied Science of Weihenstephan-Triesdorf and the Peatland Science Center in Freising, Germany. It was a great conference and my last one as a doctoral candidate.

#EGU24 is over, and I had a really good time this year. I was able to meet up with a lot of people I haven't seen in a while, had some really nice conversations ovee the week and co-convened my first session. #PhD #WomenInSTEM #geosciences #BalticTRANSCOAST

Thanks to all who came to my presentation and the organizers of my session! I'll be at the BG7.1 poster sessions later if you want to speak with me.

Hello Portland! It's been more than 6 years, and I'm only here for a week, but happy to be here!

One last day at Drammendorf today with Joachim Hofmann, taking RTK GPS measurements of all of my sampling points and removing the redox probes and weather stations. Now I'm really finished with field work for my #PhD. At least we had nice weather for the last day there! #BalticTRANSCOAST

Different views of the salt marsh on the Spiekeroog Ostplatte. I was on the #BalticTRANSCOAST fall field school this past week, looking at some tidal systems in comparison to the Baltic. #PhD #phdlife 👩🏼‍🔬

Here is the other peatland, which also has some very nice Heide/Heath around it. Herds of sheep with a few goats mixed in are used to manage the heath and keep trees and other unwanted plants at bay. The Roode Beek starts from this peatland.

I visited two restored peatland areas along the Roode Beek in the Netherlands as part of #Power2Peatlands last week, very wet but very nice to see such nice looking peatlands. The one pictured here, which is a hillslope bog/fen will be expanded soon! (Repost from twitter)
