And that's a wrap on another Purine and Pyrimidine Society meeting. Held every 2 years - this one in Barcelona - an excellent meeting for those interested in nucleotide metabolism. Lots of discussions between folks at all career stages.

Great perspective on the importance of conventional chemotherapy.

Despite many many decades of successful use, do we understand how these drugs work?

Perhaps a good companion to the figure from Uri Alon's excellent perspective on picking a scientific problem - doi.org/10.1016/j.mo....

How you expect the project to go vs how it actually goes (and should go)

New review article from the group diving into the interplay between DNA precursor pool metabolism and genome instability. A relationship that's fundamental to cancer biology and underpins a number of therapeutic approaches, including nucleoside analogues 👇

Had fun today lecturing in the Cancer Drug Discovery course at KI for PhD and MSc students. Interesting exercise to present your research not as a research seminar but as a case study of a process - in this case target validation and drug discovery efforts.

Cool reviewed preprint on the use of inhibitors of the nucleotide salvage kinase DCK - originally developed as potential cancer therapeutics - to attenuate Staphylococcus aureus virulence.

Always great to see potential new (therapeutic) uses of existing small molecules.

That's a wrap on the Karolinska Institutet Cancer Retreat!

2 days in the Stockholm archipelago with lots of presentations & discussion covering ongoing basic, translational, and clinical cancer research.

Also - Femke in the group won 1st place in the poster competition 😀💪. #ProudPI
