Weapons (2025, Cregger). What a fun movie! Well paced and edited, with extremely fraught tension, and some well earned jump scares. The dark humor is a huge plus, and lightens the movie a little bit, especially the climax

Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025, Shakman). So much fun. It’s thrilling that the Fantastic Four have a movie adaptation worthy of their legacy. Not a weak member in the cast, with a take on Galactus that’s accurate. The one complaint I have is that Ben Grimm feels largely out of focus

Superman (2025, Gunn). Feels like the truest take to the character among the movies since the Donner movies. The cast is uniformly excellent, with Corenswet, Brosnahan and Hoult leading the charge. Cinematography is gorgeous.

It’s warm and optimistic, just like it should be

Ballerina, (2025, Wiseman). The John Wick spinoff dives further into the JW universe with a capable lead in Ana De Armas. Brisk pacing, great fight choreography, and a decently written plot help buoy this addition to the franchise

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. (2025, McQuarrie). The first half suffers greatly from haphazard editing, along with massive exposition dumps. Some good retcons and callbacks to the previous installments, and ultimately saved by the final two big action set pieces

Stuck in the middle of a reading rut. I’ve normally read close to 50’books by this point; I’m at 25 right now

The Philippines had its general election for the Senate, House of Representatives and local government units. It’s the first election I’ve walked away from where I felt good.

Granted, there’s still a lot of bad to terrible, but I feel more optimistic about the 2028 national elections now

Been on a reading slump all year. It’s not the quality of the books that I’ve been picking up. It might be just leaving a job I’ve had for 8 years? Maybe I’m hitting the start of a midlife crisis?

Walz: We don’t need to run government like a business, because we’re not in the profit-making business. We’re in the business of improving lives and looking toward the future.

And second, this guy has a proven track record of being an absolute failure.

Sinners (Coogler, 2025). Coogler continues his hot streak with a flawlessly paced film. The film shows off a master who may not even be at the height of his powers. Michael B. Jordan shines in his dual role as twins Elijah/Smoke and Elias/Stack, though every single cast member is excellent.
