Soft Machine co-founder Mike Ratledge has passed away today. He had such a distinctive and inventive voice as a soloist. I count myself lucky to have seen him play several times. A brilliant composer, he was also cool as fuck.

On this day in 1950, George Orwell, journalist, writer, socialist, died in London aged 46.
Pictured here with his adopted son Richard.
Seventy-five years on, especially in these dark times, essential reading or re-reading (and not just Animal Farm or 1984).
RIP Eric. #Orwell

Fact-checking is not censorship.
Requesting evidence is not censorship.
Refuting falsehoods is not censorship.
Stopping a lie from travelling halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on is not censorship.
But Zuckerberg's grovelling to Trump will sure as hell lead to censorship.

How terribly droll. I’m very partial to a wry martini at this sentimental time of year.
I don’t know why people find Dry January hard. Mine is going great. So far today I’ve had 3 glasses of dry white wine, 2 pints of dry cider and a dry martini.
