Making a puzzle/exploration game. Trying to train my facial hair. Listening to Discworld books on repeat.
Did you know I make #art sometimes? It's not professional work but it gets the idea across!

Did you know I stream #gamedev sometimes?
Like right now, I am streaming procedural maze creation!

Creating a 3d environment with only 2D assets.
June 9, 2025 at 3:39 PM
#Solodev means doing all my own assets, including art and animations. It is just as creative and (time consuming) as code! Other #zeldalike games (like Zelda...) provide references, but sometimes I have to wing it too!

Push blocks are working. Maybe I should make a sokoban clone.

If you saw my post from a couple days ago, you'd know I was having some pretty *unusual* behavior for a #zeldalike push-block.

It's much better now. And I made an animation for the player!

Yesterday, I made an animation for falling off a cliff.
Today, I made the animation for respawning afterwards.

I have been adding new animations to the player character.

I got tired of brickwork, so I made a new tileset.
#gamedev woo.

Another #gamedev convenience: recolor the level in a couple clicks. Scenery pieces like rubble can be set to match the level, but they don't have to!

#gamedev progress. The level editor figures out the "3D" position of the player, and shades everything accordingly. That pink box is what the game window itself would look like. Great for previewing!

I was trying to write a quick tip for someone on how tracking your work can help you to stay motivated and focused as a solo dev. Then I realized it was a wall of text.
Side note: I had the title of "Scrum Master" at my old job.

Do people actually use the "Fill" menu, or is it just a holdover from the primeval days of computer art? Just curious since I used it to simulate stitching on my upgraded graphics.

My game has spooky eyes that chase you in the dark. I upgraded the graphics this week. #gamedev #solodev #gameart

I'm using a 2D tilemap to portray a 3d environment. mapping the "depth" of all the walls is part of setting up the visual effects for that. It ends up looking pretty neat. #gamedev

I'm replacing the basic and placeholder art in the game with more interesting stuff room by room. Here's a before and after where the statues have replaced the shapes. #gamedev #solodev #art

I finished blocking out the basic collisions and layouts of the rooms in my game. Then I wired them together with doors.
Even such a "small" map takes a lot of time to build!
