No, guidance is not enforceable because it’s not rules. Legislation often imposes an obligation on defined people or bodies to “have regard to” guidance & the expectation is that it will usually be followed; but where there is good reason to depart this may be judged lawful if challenged.

My "favourite" bit is when Kuenssberg uses the Peggie ruling as a reason for trans people to be excluded from single-sex spaces. When the judgment says the complete opposite.

Does it have to be done today? I don't mean to sound trite, but self care may be better today if you're able.

Does this mean that it will be enforceable if Parliament approve it? On any other issue, business would be lobbying against due to the financial costs involved.

The bbc article says that, once published, the EHRC guidance will have legal force. What does this mean?

This is horrifying. What can ordinary people outside the various systems involved do to stop this kind of thing happening?

Not going to like that for obvious reasons, but thank you for sharing. I had naively assumed that if someone was being deported to their national country that they would just be allowed in.

Why does this happen? The deporting back to the UK? Did Singapore not accept he was Singaporean? And what happens to people when they're deported back here having already had their case rejected?

So 10 years before migrants can apply for IDLR, but 20 years before people fleeing war and persecution can settle. Under what argument does that make sense? Or am I missing something?

What was the answer? Would it reassure me?

Happily, our garden this year is filled with bees, wasps, butterflies, and huge numbers of ladybirds. My daughter spent half her day yesterday rescuing ladybirds from her paddling pool with leaves, until we covered the pool. A small thing, i know, but it shows how children care about nature.

Oh, I see. That is honestly devastating (in the sense that I trust your analysis on that, and the impact will be deeply personal). I wasn't so much convinced that we could stop it, just desperately hopeful, and wanting to fight to the end. I truly do fear for my children's future from this.

Do you think it is feasible that, if this bill proceeds, we will in our lifetimes get disability benefits even back to their current poor position? I can only see it getting worse from here, not regaining what we've lost, if we accept losing this. Perhaps that is mainly where our views differ.

Exactly, I had my child's second SEND Tribunal last year, and now I'm up against the deadline to renew their DLA.
June 29, 2025 at 11:35 AM
It's absolutely a yes for some. People age out of DLA all the time, and some will in September/October, just when existing PIP claimants would have lost their PIP. They now face a cliff edge. As do all the other DLA recipients who, for the reasons I set out, can't prepare.
